Supervisor engines

The Cisco7604 router has four horizontal slots being numbered from top to bottom and measures 5 rack units (5 RU).
While slot 1 is reserved for the supervisor engine, slot 2 can contain an optional redundant supervisor engine.
!!! Note: When installing a redundant supervisor engine, both supervisor engines must be identical.
!!! Note: The GBIC uplink ports are fully functional on the redundant supervisor engine in stand by.
If a redundant supervisor engine is not required, slot two can be equipped with any supported cisco7600 series / catalyst 6500 series module.
Supported supervisor engines in the Cisco7603 router

  • Supervisor engine 2
    • WS-X6K-S2-PFC2
    • WS-X6K-S2-MSFC2
    • WS-X6K-S2U-MSFC2
  • Supervisor engine 720
    • WS-SUP720
    • WS-SUP720-3B
    • WS-SUP720-3BXL

!!! Note: While being supported in the WS-C6503 and WS-C6503-E chassis, the supervisor engine 32 is not supported in the ciso7603 router

Supported supervisor engines in the Cisco7603-S router

  • Supervisor engine 32
    • WS-SUP32-GE-3B
    • WS-SUP32-10GE-3B
  • Supervisor engine 720
    • WS-SUP720
    • WS-SUP720-3B
    • WS-SUP720-3BXL
  • Route switch processor 720
    • RSP720-3C-GE
    • RSP720-3CXL-GE

!!! Note: the supervisor engine 2 is not longer supported in the Cisco7603-S router.

Power supplies and power entry modules

Both, the Cisco7603 and the Cisco7603-S router have two power supply slots on the back of the chassis, with the power supply 1 being installed on the bottom and the optional redundant power supply 2 being installed in the upper of the two slots.

Supported spower supplies in the Cisco7603 router

  • 950 watt AC-input power supply
    • PWR-950-AC

!!! Note: the power entry module PEM-15A-AC is needed when using a PWR-950-AC. You need one PEM-15A-AC per PWR-950-AC.
The power entry modules are installed on the front of the chassis on the very top.

  • 950 watt DC-input power supply
    • PWR-950-DC

!!! Note: the power entry module PEM-DC/3 is needed when using a PWR-950-DC. You need one PEM-DC/3 per PWR-950-DC.
The power entry modules are installed on the front of the chassis on the very top.

  • 1400 watt AC-input power supply
    • PWR-1400-AC

!!! Note: the power entry module PEM-20A-AC+ is needed when using a PWR-1400-AC. You need one PEM-20A-AC+ per PWR-1400-AC.
The power entry modules are installed on the front of the chassis on the very top.

Supported spower supplies in the Cisco7603-S router

  • 1500 watt DC-input power supply
    • PWR-1500-DC

!!! Note: the power entry module PEM-1500W-DC/03S is needed when using a PWR-1500-DC. You need one PEM-1500W-DC/03S per PWR-1500-DC.
The power entry modules are installed on the front of the chassis on the very top.
There is no longer an AC power supply option for the Cisco7603-S router

Fan trays

Supported fan trays in the Cisco7603 router

  • standard fan module
    • FAN-MOD-3
  • high speed fan module
    • FAN-MOD-3HS

!!! Note: supervisor engine 720 configurations require the FAN-MOD-3HS. The FAN-MOD-3 will only work in supervisor engine 2 configurations.

Supported fan trays in the Cisco7603-S router

  • high speed fan module
    • FAN-MOD-3SHS

!!! Note: As a result of the sup 32 being the minimum required supervisor engine for the Cisco7603-S, no standard fan tray is supported in any cisco7603-S configuration. Both high speed fans, the FAN-MOD-3SHS and the FAN-MOD-3HS will work in the Cisco7603-S. With the FAN-MOD-3SHS being white, the colour would be the only difference.
