Testing your GBIC per ping

Step 1: Enter the configuration mode.

Step 2: Type interface vlan1 in.

Step 3: Now you can award a ip address. Type following in ip address [Ip- Address][Subnetmask].

Step 4: Activate the settings with no shutdown.

Step 5: Leave this mode with exit.

Step 7: Enter the GBIC interface. Type interface gigabit 0/1 or 0/2 in to get on the GBICs.

Step 8: Activate the interface with no shutdown.

Step 9: Go back to the priveligate mode.

Step 10: Type ping <destination- IP- Address> to send echos to the other GBIC.
