Supervisor engines

Both, the Cisco7609 and the Cisco7609-S router has nine vertical slots being numbered from right to left and measures 21 rack units (21 RU).
While the supported supervisor engine 2 (see below) is installed in slot 1 and an optional redundant supervisor engine 2 in slot 2, the supported supervisor engine 720, supervisor engine 32 and route switch processor 720 are installed in slot 5 (first supervisor engine)and slot 6 (optional redundant supervisor engine).

!!! Note: When installing a redundant supervisor engine, both supervisor engines must be identical.
!!! Note: The GBIC uplink ports are fully functional on the redundant supervisor engine in stand by.

If a redundant supervisor engine is not required, all free slots can be equipped with any supported cisco7600 series / catalyst 6500 series module.

Supported supervisor engines in the Cisco7609 router

!!!Note: The Supervisor Enigne 720 has two GBIC uplink ports and one 10/100/1000 Tx port. Only two of the three ports can be active at any one time.

  • Supervisor engine 32
!!! To be installed in slot 5 (first supervisor engine) and in slot 6 (optional redundant supervisor engine).
  • Route switch processor 720
!!! To be installed in slot 5 (first supervisor engine) and in slot 6 (optional redundant supervisor engine).
    • RSP720-3C-GE
    • RSP720-3CXL-GE

!!! Note: the supervisor engine 2 is not longer supported in the Cisco7609-S router.

Power supplies and power entry modules

Both, the Cisco7609 and the Cisco7609-S router have two power supply slots on the front of the chassis, with the power supply 1 being installed on the left and the optional redundant power supply 2 being installed in the right one of the two slots.

Supported power supplies in the Cisco7609 router

  • 2500 watt DC-input power supply
    • WS-CDC-2500W

No power entry module is needed when using a WS-CDC-2500W

  • 3000 watt AC-input power supply
    • WS-CAC-3000W

No power entry module is needed when using a WS-CAC-3000W

  • 4000 watt AC-input power supply
    • WS-CAC-4000W-US1

No power entry module is needed when using a WS-CAC-4000W-US1/6

  • 4000 watt DC-input power supply
    • PWR-4000-DC

No power entry module is needed when using a PWR-4000-DC

  • 6000 watt AC-input power supply
    • WS-CAC-6000W

No power entry module is needed when using a WS-CAC-6000W

  • 6000 watt DC-input power supply

Fan trays

Both, the Cisco7609 and the Cisco7609-S router require two fan modules, that are both installed on the front of the chassis above the module slots.

Supported fan trays in the Cisco7609 router

  • high speed fan module
    • FAN-MOD-09

Supported fan trays in the Cisco7609-S router

  • high speed fan module
    • FAN-MOD-9SHS

!!! Note: Both high speed fans, the FAN-MOD-09 and the FAN-MOD-9SHS will work in the Cisco7609-S chassis. With the FAN-MOD-9SHS being white, the colour would be the only difference.
