Supervisor engines
Both, The Cisco Catalyst 6506 switch and the Cisco Catalyst 6506-E switch have 6-slot horizontal slots and being nummbered from 1 (botton) to 6 (top) and measure 7 rack units (7RU).
While the supported supervisor engine 2 (see below) is installed in slot 1 and an optional redundant supervisor engine 2 in slot 2, the supported supervisor engine 720 and supervisor engine 32 are installed in slot 5 (first supervisor engine)and slot 6 (optional redundant supervisor engine).
!!! Note: When installing a redundant supervisor engine, both supervisor engines must be identical.
!!! Note: The GBIC uplink ports are fully functional on the redundant supervisor engine in stand by.
If a redundant supervisor engine is not required, all free slots can be equipped with any supported cisco7600 series / catalyst 6500 series module.

Power supplies
Both, the Cisco WS-C6506 and the Cisco 6506-E switch have two power supply slots on the back of the chassis, with the power supply 1 being installed on the bottom and the optional redundant power supply 2 being installed in the upper of the two slots.
